Why ceramic tint (not just looks)
Ceramic and nano-ceramic tint films block 99% of UV rays and reject a large portion of infrared heat, so your cabin stays cooler and your interior fades less. Unlike cheap dyed film, ceramic tint doesn't turn purple, doesn't interfere with GPS or phone signal, and keeps its clarity for years. It also cuts glare and adds a layer of privacy without going dark enough to fail an inspection.
The technology
How nano-ceramic tint works.
Standard dyed film darkens glass by absorbing light. Ceramic film works differently: microscopic ceramic particles are suspended inside the film and reflect infrared energy instead of soaking it up. That is why a ceramic-tinted car can look relatively light and still feel dramatically cooler on a hot afternoon.
Nano-ceramic takes the same idea further. The particles are smaller and more evenly distributed, so the film rejects more heat while staying optically clearer. There is no metal in the film, which means no interference with GPS, keyless entry, cell signal, or radio. It is the option we recommend for anyone who parks outside all summer or drives a vehicle with a lot of glass.
Longevity
Why tint turns purple, and why ours doesn't.
That purple, bubbling tint you see on older cars around Caledonia is almost always cheap dyed film. The dye is organic, and years of UV exposure break it down. The colour shifts from grey to purple, the adhesive fails, and the film starts to bubble and peel away from the glass.
Ceramic film has no dye to break down. The ceramic particles are inorganic and UV stable, so the film holds its colour and clarity for the life of the vehicle. We install in a clean indoor bay, heat-shrink each piece to the curve of the glass, and cut on a plotter rather than freehand on your paint, which is the other half of why a tint job lasts or doesn't.
Ontario rules
Staying legal in Ontario.
Ontario's Highway Traffic Act restricts how dark the front of your vehicle can go: the windshield and front side windows have to let enough light through that a driver's view out and a police officer's view in are not substantially obscured. Rear side windows and rear glass are treated more leniently. We will walk you through the shade options before we start and steer you to a front-window film that keeps you onside. If you want the exact current wording, confirm with the Ministry of Transportation, but we won't install anything up front that we think will get you pulled over.
